Chelsea defender, Caldara return and more: Milan’s options to replace Kjaer

Milan are considering their options to replace the injured Simon Kjaer, including bringing Mattia Caldara back from his loan at Venezia.

The Denmark international will undergo knee surgery today and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he could remain out of action for up to six months.

Therefore, Milan will likely change their transfer strategy for January as director Paolo Maldini had claimed the club was not planning to bring in new faces in the winter transfer window.

There is a host of defenders linked with a move to San Siro.

According to Calciomercato.com, Monaco’s Benoît Badiashile, Lens’ Facundo Medina and Caleb Okoli, currently on loan at Cremonese from Atalanta, are all on the club’s radars.

Milan’s main target is Torino’s Gleison Bremer, but the Granata are unlikely to sell their star in the January transfer window, so Milan are already working ahead of a possible transfer in the summer.

According to Calciomercato.com and Tuttosport, Mattia Caldara’s return from his loan at Venezia is also an option for the Rossoneri.

Caldara, 27, joined the newly-promoted Serie A side on a temporary deal in the summer and has played 12 games this season.

He moved to Milan from Juventus in a swap deal involving Leonardo Bonucci and Gonzalo Higuain in 2018, but only played two games with the Rossoneri.

Last but not least, Tuttosport reports Chelsea’s Malang Sarr could be offered to Milan as the Serie A giants and the Blues are on good terms following the transfers of Fikayo Tomori, Olivier Giroud and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
